For book lovers, a personal library is a must. Unfortunately, an in-home library can be difficult for homeowners to attain, as there is little room for libraries in most homes. However, closets provide a great place to create your own library or book nook. They give you a place to store your books without taking up too much space and make your home more interesting and inviting.
To begin, decide on your closet. Which size would best suit your home and family?
A walk-in closet is the largest and most versatile of options. As the closet with the most room, it provides space to convert it into a book nook instead of just a library. After painting and installing the shelving, consider adding an interesting chair and lighting to make it more comfortable and to provide a space to get away from the distractions of life.
For reach-in closets, you can either add French doors or remove the doors completely. By adding French doors to a reach-in closet, it can instantly make the library/book nook look more interesting and can display your books in a nicer, cleaner way. However, removing the doors completely allows for a more open feel, allowing you the opportunity to add an interesting chair, thus giving you the opportunity to turn it into more of a book nook.
Finally, the linen/coat closet enables you to use less room for the same desired effect. It is the most convenient option for a closet library, albeit the smallest. You can easily clean out a linen closet to make room for your books. Add a French door with glass inserts to show off your collection and voilĂ !
After you’ve decided on the closet, start thinking about paint colors. Adding color to the back wall or even all the walls can drastically change the atmosphere. Whether it is a walk-in closet or a linen closet, atmosphere is everything. It can transform an area into a place you always want to be.
After paint comes the most important step: shelving. Depending on the rest of your design and what you want the tone of your library to be, think about whether you want reclaimed wood or regular wood. Lori Hamblin, a designer here at Classy Closets, gives an excellent alternative to reclaimed wood. Because reclaimed wood is not as durable as regular wood, Lori suggests using melamine instead, which can come in a reclaimed wood style.
For French doors, go to Home Depot or Lowe’s and take a look at the styles and colors of French doors they have there. If you can’t find anything that works, consider looking up your local mill shop

The garage is probably one of the most missed places while cleaning. Between all the toys, bikes, scooters, and cars, the garage is also one of the messiest and chaotic. Take back control of your garage by using some simple organizational tips!
Start by de-cluttering your garage. Take out old toys and donate them to charity. Throw out all the trash that has accumulated throughout the years. This will diminish the mess and make the task seem much less daunting.
After de-cluttering, it’s time to start organizing! Start by utilizing the wall space. Hang up pegboards on the walls to house your tools. Use hooks or screwdriver racks to hang them on the pegboards. This will keep your tools off the workbench, leaving more room for work to be done.
Next, hang up shovels, rakes, and weed wackers on the wall with heavy-duty hooks. This keeps them from being knocked over or leaning against the wall, not to mention it gives you a clear, open walking space.
Hang a bike rack or hook on the wall to make more room for cars.
Finally, keep basketballs, footballs, and baseballs off the ground with a ball rack.
For a finishing touch, change the bulbs in your garage lighting to make a clean, open feeling and give the door a good scrubbing!

One of the most satisfying spring cleaning tasks is cleaning out the closet to make way for warm-weather clothes. Unfortunately, this can be a daunting undertaking, especially if you’ve let the clutter build all winter. In a nutshell, here is a step-by-step guide to cleaning out your closet.
Straighten it up. Throw away trash and hang everything up so it’s tidy to start.
Remove everything from your closet and lay it out on your bed in groupings: pants, dresses, etc.
Clean your closet: Dust, vacuum and mop.
Sort the clothes into four piles: Keep, save for when they fit, donate, and toss or recycle.
Hang up everything in the “keep” pile. Organize them by type: pants, shirts, dresses, etc.
Return shoes and accessories to the closet.
Dispose of your cast-offs right away. Take the boxes to the donation center and throw away or recycle clothes that are too worn to be donated.
If your closet still feels crowded and inefficient, consider a serious closet organization makeover withCustom Closets Direct. We can create the perfect system for your closet to keep it tidy and your clothes easily accessible.

It is a day and age where home owners want to make the most out of their square footage. Rooms no longer have to be defined as "offices", "laundry rooms", "closets", or "dens". People want more. Homes that utilize space actually have an increased property value which is extremely important with the current struggling housing market. This is not a new idea. Historic architect Frank Lloyd Wright came up with the concept of an "open" home nearly 100 years ago. These open homes were extremely popular near the beginning of the 20th century and now, as we close out the first decade of the 21st, these open homes are making a resurgence.
Storage is key for these "open" homes. Utilizing closet space and other storage facilities can eliminate the need for certain expensive furniture such as dressers and cabinets. There are even ways to cut down on the total square feet needed for your home. Having the option of wallbed in a home office can eliminate the need for a guest room. Your home is littered with places where good ideas can help maximize space. When you really look for ways to cut down on costs you can see the benefits of having the amenities of an "open" home.
Investing now can save you money in the future. Renovating your current home or adding some of the features of an "open" home to your new house can truly be beneficial, especially if you are planning to sell your home in the current market and economy.

Closets Utah - Classy Closets
I'm delighted to feature a guest post from Kim of VanchicDC! Keep on reading for her top closet organization tips!
Having an organized closet is something all of us ladies desire, but getting to that OCD-sweet-spot is laborous. I am a professional organizer and Youtube Guru under Big Frame Network. Literally all day long I preach the topic of how to organize a closet fashion-forward. Watching my Youtube videos, you'll get a sense of the everyday basic babysteps needed to orchestrate a simpler home, develop second nature maintenance routines and create hub systems. No busy gal can master becoming a stepford wife overnight. It's arduous to break messy and unordered lifestyle and home habits. My goal is catering to the busy, fashionable and budget concious girl. Here are my top tips to achieve a glam & larger looking closet.
1. Every item in a closet must have a home. If you pick up different outfits to try on in the morning, all the stuff you dont end up wearing needs to go back on the hanger.
2. Each material item needs a belonging zone. Categorize it by type. All shirts go in the shirt section, every sock sits in the sock drawer, all purses lie in the purse region, jeans with the jeans...etc When this gets jumbled, your closet looks cluttered, cheap and smaller.
3. The fastest way to look like you know what youre doing when it comes to your home fashion identity: Color coordinate! (If you have patterns that dont have a specific color, pick the dominating color you see in the pattern.) Color coordinating is a great way to see what you have and what staple items you're missing. For some reason I have no green tops but I have 30 black blouses. I can clearly see that I should probably change my shopping habits and start gravitating towards more nature-friendly colors!
4. PLEASE throw away all your mismatching hangers. Buy hangers that are 100% completely the same brand and color. Just do it. I promise you'll thank me. It's really helpful to see all your clothes hanging at the same level height. It creates a linear focus to the architecture of a small space like a closet.
5. Think glamorous...chuck all the plastic bins, fake wood particle board shelving, boxes, over the door hangers and dorm-room crap. Think pretty: flowers, chandelier, fabric stool, valet hooks, hidden lighted shelving, coordinate all the door/drawer knobs, lean a framed floor mirror against a wall, drapes, armoire, nail a mini curio to the wall etc...
6. Stay away from overpriced organizational tools! (Shedding wicker baskets, ugly sharpied labels, plastic under the bed storage, fabric hanging shelves, space savers, drawer carts, hanging jewelry rolls) All they do is make you more unorganized...and let's face it, they are ugly. I never see my high end cliental with these gimmicky items in the house.
7. Sort out and purge all the clothing rejects. Clothes you never wear, or that are worn down, too tight or just plain ugly! The are taking up prime real estate home space!
8. Shop smarter! Honor your bank account and hard earned money. Cut the urge to splurge. Just because you shop less doesnt make you less hip or fashionable.
9. Take my organization quiz to see how organized you are and if you are spending too much money on thoughtless accumulation junk that is filling up your house.
10. A simpler home with space and proper decor staging is chic, polished and will make a room look bigger.
Would it take you more than an hour to tidy up your belongings? How many times a week do you misplace or lose things? Are you shopping and spending close-to or more money in a month than what you make? Is there more than one room in your house that has stacks of papers? Are you holding onto family heirlooms or gifts out of guilt and fear to purge it? Do you have mismatched or lost socks every time you do laundry? If you feel you are unorganized, my youtube channel can get your life on track. My goal is to inspire you to make your living space simplified and glamorous so you can efficiently get out the door quicker in the morning and feel good about your valuables.
